Lorenzo

Profile
Cumpleaños: August 15th
Secondary School: Grade 6

Lorenzo recently began his 6th year of Secondary School (high school). He is often the first to arrive in the morning and last to leave. Whilst he is relatively quiet and shy every now and then he’ll let his cheeky side show – cracking a joke and sporting a big grin on his face.

He has shown interest in learning English, practicing often simple phrases and asking international volunteers the meaning of different English words.

Lorenzo continues to lead by example with his dedicated and focused demeanor. This past quarter, he has been working quite diligently using the resources available at Seeds to complete assignments and advance his studies.

He continues to be rather shy – it was a bit of work to pull him aside for an updated photo.

We would like to thank you for your ongoing support

September 2015 Sponsorship Update

February - September 2015

Dear Keith and Lindsey,

Well, it’s been a long school year here in Huaraz, but we’ve had a lovely dry season of sunshine and outdoor activities. We would like to apologise for taking so long to send you an official update as we know it’s been a while now.

Lorenzo is doing well and working hard, as usual. He is now coming to the final half of his first year of University. Although we don't see him at Seeds very much these days, we hear from him and how he's doing regularly. He continues to work extremely hard with his studies and recently transferred to an engineering school to start an engineering degree rather than carry on with law. He is still a keen soccer player and plays regularly outside of lectures.

Thanks to you and your generosity, Seeds of Hope was able to provide Lorenzo with all of the supplies necessary to attend University - for this we are grateful.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Dear Keith and Lindsay Ray,

Now that the rain is starting to subside in Huaraz, the sun is shining and the flowers are in bloom. With this new season brings a new school year.

Lorenzo recently started a new school year and is now Grade 5 of Secondary School. As always, Lorenzo is doing well at in his studies - he is often one of the first students to arrive and needs no reminder to get settled and started on his homework. He spends the entire session at Seeds working diligently.

Lorenzo is a young man of few words - so when he does decide to speak we pay attention. Lorenzo recently shared with us that he enjoys studying math, his favorite food is ceviche and his likes the color red. He also loves his cat.

Thank you for your continued support with Lorenzo.

Kindly,
Seeds of Hope

Dear Keith and Lindsay,

We hope the New Year finds you well with almost one month under its belt. We would like to thank you for your continued support with Lorenzo and Seeds of hope.

As a reminder, we created a private blog page for
Lorenzo so it will be easier for you to keep up to date with his progress. The second installment of his blog is a photo gallery featuring photos taken through the remainder of 2013.

Lorenzo continues to practice good attendance and works diligently on assignments during his time at Seeds. Lorenzo was a recent participant in our Paso a Paso (step by step) program, designed and implemented by our previous resident social worker.

This program is focused on helping our kids identify their strengths and abilities, set goals and determine how to achieve them. Our social worker went to great lengths to make this program sustainable by producing quality resources and instructions for future volunteers to use.

We are happy to report that this program is still in place - Seeds of Hope has been fortunate to have two volunteers, with respective backgrounds in Occupational Therapy and Psychotherapy, dedicate their time to the continuation and advancement of the program.

Through Paso a Paso, we have learned more about
Lorenzo and how he sees himself. He was able to open up to our volunteer and spoke about his future. Lorenzo is enthusiastic about helping helping his family. He envisions that he wants to be a civil engineer. He enjoys playing football, dancing and studying math. He is happy because he has an aptitude for mathematics. Lorenzo expressed that he only trusts people he knows well and describes himself as solitary. We have noticed that Lorenzo is very eager, serious, committed yet he is not self aware of his strengths. We also learned he is very close to mother, but when asked if he sees a family in his future, he responded with an uncertain 'no.'  Lorenzo was very keen to participate in the paso o paso program and hopes to continue.

In other news, the students are now on summer vacation. Days before school let out, Lorenzo participated in our recent Santa Dash fundraiser - click here to see the complete story or follow this link: http://seedsofhoperu.blogspot.com/2013/12/santa-dash-fun-run-2013.html.

As mentioned, the addition of Wi-Fi and multiple computers at our school has helped all of our students complete assignments. We are better equipped to organise a skype session between you and
Lorenzo. If you are interested in arranging a skype chat please send us an email at seedsofhoperu@hotmail.com and we would be more than happy to set this up.

Many thanks,
The Seeds of Hope Team
