Semillas en Crecimiento!

Nuestro Plantita Proyecto
Before & After

Ever since we incorporated yogurt into our nutrition program, we continue to accumulate a healthy supply of empty yogurt cartons -- nothing makes us happier than diverting these items from the basura (trash). From Grimaldo's Piggy Bank activity to this plant project, we are always looking to for ways to repurpose items at Seeds of Hope in an educational and creative manner. The project below was inspired by the collaboration of several volunteers.

Part One - Designing the Yogurt Carton
Step One - Clean out old yogurt cartons
Step Two - Holding the bottle sideways, cut a 3" x 2" (approx.) opening in one side of the container. Maker sure to cut small holes on the opposite side of the bottle for breathability and excess water to escape.
Step Three - Sketch in a design and start painting!

Part Two - Installing Yogurt Bottles & Planting our Semillas!
Step One - Each row of hanging bottles will require two pieces of rope/twine. Using rope or twine, thread through both end of the bottles. This will take some foresight - determine how many bottles you want per row and where to cut holes for the rope/twine. A sketch is always helpful.
Step Two - Install / hang in a place where plants will receive lots of sunlight as well protection from elements like wind.
Step Three - Infill yogurt containers with dirt, plant seeds according to directions
Step Four - Water and track grown in a journal.
