My name is Lacy and I've been working with SoH for nearly a year as the International Coordinator. Prior to moving to Peru, I had the joy of living with a dedicated third grade teacher for three years. Emily, my former housemate, teaches a unit about the water cycle and combines her lesson with a song. I am not a confident singer, but I have longed for the day to harness the courage to share Emily's lesson with the students at Seeds.
We began the lesson by learning the song in Spanish and then in English. We realized that the words evaporación, condensación and precipitación do not roll off the tongue quite as easily in Spanish as they do in English, but that didn't stop us from trying.
After we were exhausted from singing, the students completed a water cycle worksheet and illustrated the scene. We would be delighted if you would listen to our videos. However, we would like to provide a disclaimer - this song may get caught in your head for days and days and days…or maybe not.
Song:
English
Water travels in a cycle, yes it does. (repeat)
It goes up as evaporation, forms clouds as condensation, and falls down as precipitation, yes it does.
Spanish
El Agua viaja en un ciclo, es asi (repeat)
Sube como evaporación, las nubes son condensación, y cuando baja es precipitación, si lo hace
