Valentines Day Mailbox | Art Activity

Workshop designed by:
 Profesora Lacy
Do you remember those days as a child -- days spent crafting 'mail boxes' from an old tissue or shoe box for your school Valentine party? You may have spent several days before school addressing personal valentine cards to each kid in your class, because you can't leave anyone out...especially on Valentines Day when one might already be felling awkward.

Well, old tissue and shoe boxes are not items that are easily accessible here in Huaraz -- therefore it was time to think outside of the box.

STEP ONE:
Cut 6 equal squares from cardboard.
We used large cardboard sheets from a local brewery - the sheets pictured below were originally used to line the pallets used for shipping empty new bottles to the brewery, separating the pallet from the bottles. Let's just say someone knows where someone stores these unneeded items.

STEP TWO:
Prior to assembly, be sure to cut an opening (any shape) on one of the cardboard pieces - this opening will serve as the mail slot. Assemble 6 equal cardboard squares to create a box. Use tape to secure the edges. Think about how you would like to access the notes in the Valentine Box - perhaps you make a lid or you do not secure all the edges.

 STEP THREE:
Make that box fancy! Use any combination of materials: newspaper, tissue paper, glitter, ribbon, paint -- you name it!
 STEP FOUR:
Create thoughtful cards for your friends and classmates to put in the mailboxes.
