UPDATE :: Help Us Build Alex And Carlos A New Home!

Most of you will remember Alex and Carlos. Recently their family suffered terrible damage to their home which resulted in the building collapsing around them. Luckily, no one was harmed.

However, they have been without somewhere ti live now for a month and have, therefore, been sleeping under a bridge with their family and the two other families which shared this tiny, one story building before it fell down.We have been helping them to fund a new home and to rebuild their lives with your help. So, we wanted to give you a small update on how things were going!

First of all, we'd like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who very kindly donated to this desperate cause. The response to our campaign has been phenomenal. We managed to smash our target of $1000 in just 8 hours! We are now nearing the $2500 mark, which is just incredible. We can't thank you all enough for your kindness in donating and sharing this information with your friends and family. It is going to make a huge difference to the lives of these families.

The rebuild of the house was a slow starter, but now, with your help, and the help of our volunteers pitching in here in Huaraz, we are on our way to something great. The foundations are laid, the brick work set, with a second floor also in tact. The roof has just gone on the second floor and it looks great!

Yuri recently hired some extra contracting help to hurry the project along. As we are moving in to September now and the rain is on its way back, we have been very concerned that the house will not be complete before the wet season brings the daily downpours. Having done so, there has been a huge amount of progress over the last week and we are very pleased with how everything is looking.

We are now waiting for the walls to be finished and some safe flooring to be put in to keep out the rain and to make it safe for the kids to move around in. We then have the final touches to go in, such as doors, windows etc. 

And this is where we are up to as of yesterday. With the roof on, the build is now beginning to look like a home!
